Stockpile depletion to hit Tharisa output

[miningmx.com] – THARISA, a chrome and platinum group metal (PGM) producer, said the decline in stockpiles at its North-West province mine in South Africa, would result in ‘non-optimal’ feed to the plant which would affect production.

The depletion in stockpiles related to the suspension of mining following safety stoppages imposed by the Department of Mineral Resources (DMR) in which some nine shifts were affected. The suspension was lifted on October 5.

However, the group was on track to produce 144,000 ounces of PGM output and chrome concentrate of 1.5 million tonnes in its 2016 financial year.

For the September quarter, the first of Tharisa’s 2016 financial year, it produced 27,100 oz of PGM (6E) compared to 22,500 oz in the first quarter of the previous financial year, and 295,000 tonnes of chrome concentrate against 219,000 tonnes in 2014.
