SA facing water supply cuts

[miningmx.com] – SOUTH Africa may implement water restrictions in provinces most affected by a drought – the worst since 1992 – said Bloomberg News in an article republished by BDLive.

Citing Water Minister, Nomvula Mokonyane, the newswire said two of the country’s nine provinces had been declared disaster areas including KwaZulu-Natal. As a result, the government may have to cut supply to consumers and farmers, said Mokonyane.

“Water is a constitutional right in South Africa,” she said. “What we will do is reduce the supply. Where there is no water being provided, we will augment that with water tanks.”
