Gold heading for better days as output peaks

[miningmx.com] – GLOBAL gold production peaked in the third quarter of 2015 and was unlikely to summit those levels again for years to come, said BDLive which cited the findings of Thomson Reuters GFMS in its latest gold survey.

Third quarter production of 849 tonnes was the largest on record, GFMS said. “We expect this to hold the record for the largest volume of gold produced in a quarter for several years to come,” said GFMS.

Thomson Reuters also had good news for the metal’s price saying it would begin a “slow recovery” this year and was expected to trade above $1,200/oz towards the end of the year, averaging $1,164/oz.

“While the gold price is likely to remain under pressure for some time, the prospects look brighter for 2016, particularly in the second half,” it said.
