Water, mine licence process applauded

[miningmx.com] – THE integration of legislation and regulations governing water, mining and prospecting licences in South Africa was lauded by Jonny de Lange who said the process had seen novel and innovative work.

De Lange is the chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Water and Environmental Affairs and attended the Joint Sitting of the Portfolio Committees on Water and Environmental Affairs and Mineral Resources which is presiding over the integration of water and mining application processes.

In terms of the committee’s efforts, the environment aspects of mining and prospecting activities have bee included in the National Environment Management Act (NEMA) and removed from the scope of the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act (MPRDA).
