Newcrest shakes up executive team

[miningmx.com] – SANDEEP Biswas will replace Greg Robinson as CEO of Newcrest Mining in the latest gold company executive reshuffle. Newcrest is the joint venture partner of Harmony Gold in the Wafi-Golpu project in Papua New Guinea

“It’s a step in the right direction,’ Brenton Saunders, an investment analyst with BT Investment Management, told Bloomberg News. “There are so many things that need to change in this business, it’s just one piece of the puzzle,’ he said.

The Australian gold miner, which wrote down $5.9bn and led to a regulatory probe, also said its chairman, Don Mercer, would be succeeded in December by Peter Hay who had joined the board in December.

Biswas, who was formerly CEO of Rio Tinto’s Pacific Aluminium unit, has been appointed chief operating officer in the meantime and will replace Robinson in the second half of 2014.
