Strike at AngloGold’s Mali mines delayed

[miningmx.com] – MINERS seeking improved lay-off terms at the Mali mines of AngloGold Ashanti have delayed a strike to allow for more negotiations, said BDLive citing an article first produced by Reuters.

Workers at AngloGold Ashanti’s Sadiola and Yatela gold mines in the west African country held a five-day strike last month demanding better layoff terms, said Reuters. AngloGold is closing the mines following the slide in the gold price last year.

“The governor said he will intervene on our behalf with the company. But if there is no progress in a few days, we will still go on strike until our demands are met,” Mahamadou Konte, president of a commission representing the miners at the negotiation, told Reuters.
