Nickel propelled by Indonesia, Russia ills

[miningmx.com] – THE price of nickel was tipped to climb as high as $20,000 per tonne, said Bloomberg News citing a report by Goldman Sachs which based its forecast on supply constraints from Indonesia and Russia.

Nickel for delivery in three months was at $17,850/t, a gain of 2.6% today and was being influenced by Indonesia’s decision to bar exports in January and sanctions imposed on Russia following political concerns in the Ukraine.

“We have been bullish on nickel since the start of the year, but prices have risen more quickly than in our base case,’ Jeff Currie, an analyst at Goldman Sachs, said in the report.
