
[miningmx.com] – TWO non-profit organisations are considering challenging amendments to the Minerals & Petroleum Resources Development Amendment bill saying it was not constitutional.
BDLive said the Legal Resources Centre and the Centre for Environmental Rights believed the bill, which is expected to be passed before South Africa’s national elections on May 7, gave the Department of Mineral Resources full environmental management of mines to the exclusion of the provinces.
They added that not enough time had been given over to proper consultation while the potential effects on communities had also not been considered, said BDLive.
