[miningmx.com] – THE South African government is to develop a urgent plan to recapitalise power utility Eskom amid fears that it may be downgraded to junk status by credit ratings agencies, said BDLive.
The recapitalisation plans, following below requested electricity tariff increases last year, is part of a broader energy plan upon which South African president Jacob Zuma said the government would embark.
In an interview with BDLive, newly appointed public enterprises minister, Lynne Brown, said she had met Eskom board members last week and would meet them again this week with energy minister, Tina Joemat-Pettersson.
The talks had been about load-shedding and how Eskom fitted into the overall energy plan. Eskom would present a report by the end of the month on the role it saw for itself within the energy field, said BDLive.
