
[miningmx.com] – SOUTH African mines minister, Ngoako Ramatlhodi, said the government would press ahead with efforts to stamp out illegal mining following the death of eight miners earlier this week.
“Through the Illegal Mining Stakeholder Forums established, the [minerals] department will continue implementing measures to ultimately eradicate these illicit activities’. These measures included sealing off access holes.
The miners were killed execution style on an abandoned gold mine in Benoni, east of Johannesburg, said BDLive. The bodies were discovered by mine security between Saturday and Sunday, it said.
