Gold Fields calls on Ghana to lower taxes

[miningmx.com] – GOLD Fields has called on the Ghanaian government to lower taxes in order to help the gold producer tackle the decline in the gold price.

Alfred Baku, head of Gold Fields west Africa operations, told Bloomberg News that the company was “… in a difficult situation”.

“We are appealing to government to come to our aid and loosen the fiscal regime because the current gold price doesn’t help us at all,” said Baku who has proposed a reduction of corporate tax to 30% from 35% and royalties of 4% compared with 5%.
