[miningmx.com] – MINING companies producing strategic minerals such as coal and iron ore should allocate at least a fifth of their output to local beneficiation, said BDLive citing comments on July 11 by MPs of the African National Congress and Economic Freedom Fighters.
The comments were made in a debate during parliament’s trade and industry committee and extends the demands of the Mineral & Petroleum Resources Development Act (MPRDA) which allows the mines minister to decide on the quantum.
The committee does not oversee mining, but it has an interest in beneficiation and expansion of the manufacturing sector, said BDLive.
