Lessons learned will help wage talks: Mboweni

[miningmx.com] – TITO Mboweni, chairperson of AngloGold Ashanti, said he was confident the lessons learned from 2012 would stand the mining industry in good stead as it broached wage negotiations with unions later this month.

Speaking to Bloomberg TV, Mboweni also threw his weight behind AngloGold Ashanti’s newly appointed CEO, Srinivasan Venkatakrishnan (Venkat) who had been tasked with achieving an “uplift” for shareholders.

“I’m quite certain that he’s up to it otherwise we wouldn’t have appointed him,” Mboweni said.

“The atmosphere is quite a difficult one,” Mboweni said of the labour market and relations with employers.

“We’re quite convinced that the lessons learnt from last year will stand us in good stead as we prepare for the next round of wage negotiations.

“I’m quite sure that our executives will be able to handle the situation very well.”
