Lonmin loses 18-month no fatality record

[miningmx.com] – LONMIN said an employee had died in a vehicle accident at one of its shafts on May 19 breaking an 18 month stint of no fatalities at the company’s operations.

Silver Cossa, was killed in an incident at Lonmin’s Hossy shaft. A full investigation was underway.

“Our last fatality was over eighteen months ago and we recently passed ten million underground fatality free shifts at Marikana,” said Ben Magara, CEO of Lonmin. “We continue to believe that that zero harm is achievable,” he said.
