Ivanhoe condemns Platfeef demonstration

[miningmx.com] – IVANHOE Mines condemned a 100-person strong demonstration at the site of its Platreef project in South Africa’s Limpopo province which ended after police dispersed the group described by the platinum firm as “known trouble-makers”.

Aubrey Langa, which Ivanhoe said had a criminal record, helped gather local community members after saying the company was hiring workers when it was only restarting activities following the granting of a mining permit, according to the Canadian firm.

“The company will not be held hostage by a small group of self-serving agitators whose agenda and conduct is contrary to the majority interests of the area communities,” said Ivanhoe Mines.
