SA govt to raise $870m for Eskom

[miningmx.com] – THE South African government had set in motion plans to raise $870m for Eskom, said Reuters in an article republished by BDLive. In the article, Reuters said the capital could be supplied to Eskom by June.

“National Treasury has already identified a viable strategy to raise the required amount of funding that could be executed,” spokesman for the National Treasury, Jabulani Sikhakhane, told Reuters.

“Due to the commercial sensitivities involved, we cannot provide details. However, the process is proceeding to plan,” said Sikhakhane. The government said earlier it could raise $1.7bn by selling non-essential assets, but declined to say what the assets were.
