
[miningmx.com] – THE South African parliament’s trade and industry committee urged the government to adopt developmental pricing for steel and polymers in order to kickstart industrial development in the country, said BDLive.
The committee’s recommendation of development pricing backs the view of trade and industry minister, Rob Davies, who believes high steel and polymer pricing by ArcelorMittal South African and Sasol respectively was holding back the industrialisation of South Africa.
Paul O’Flaherty, CEO of AMSA, told the committee during its colloquium on beneficiation that it faced stiff competition from steel imported from the Far East and that the company’s policy was to offer competitive steel prices to the domestic market.
