
[miningmx.com] – ESKOM, the South African power utility, has asked its industrial customers to cut electricity usage by 10% as it sought to minimise load-shedding caused by “multiple tripping of generating units,” said BDLive.
“The power system has experienced an increase in electricity demand due to the weather conditions and an increase in load losses as a result of multiple tripping of generating units at the Majuba and Matimba power stations,” Eskom said.
“Eskom is now following the protocol in terms of its emergency procedures in order to secure the power system,” said Eskom. It added that it was in a good position for the first half of this week following load-shedding but could provide no guarantees.
