
[miningmx.com] – PRODUCTION at Mutanda Mining, a joint venture in the Democratic Republic of Congo between Dan Gertler’s Fleurette Group and Glencore, would maintain copper and cobalt production, said Bloomberg News.
This was despite a decision by Glencore earlier this week to suspend production at Katanga Mining for 18 months in an effort to improve market fundamentals for copper, the newswire said.
“Production at Mutanda is in full swing and will continue,’ said Pieter Deboutte, a board member of Mutanda Mining. The mine in Congo’s southeastern Katanga province will produce 200,000 tons of copper and 18,000 tons of cobalt this year, he said.
