[miningmx.com] – KABOKU Mining CEO, Tokkas van Heerden, said the long term outlook for manganese remained strong because growth in demand would continue from China and India as they continued to develop and urbanise.
The demand curve in this 15.2 million tonnes of ore-in-alloy market each year would also be boosted by domestic ore supply challenges in China itself, now an importer of more than half of its annual manganese requirements, said Van Heerden who was speaking at the Africa Down Under conference.
Every tonne of crude steel requires an equivalent of 10 kilograms of manganese alloy – equivalent to 30 kilograms of manganese ore consumption, he said.
