Petmin’s Somkhele mine calls strike

[miningmx.com] – ABOUT 100 employees of Tendele Coal Mining, the operator of Petmin’s KwaZulu-Natal anthracite mine, Somkhele, called strike action on September 16 following a failure to agreement wage and benefit increases, Petmin said in an announcement to the JSE.

Mining has continued at Somkhele, and there are sufficient stockpiles to deliver into existing contracts, Petmin said.

However, night shipments have ceased with the result that one of Tendele’s customers has been advised that it will reduce the volume to be supplied for a vessel scheduled to load by the end of this week.
