AMCU to resume Amplats talks

[miningmx.com] – THE Associated of Mineworkers & Construction Union (AMCU) sounded a note of optimism telling Reuters that more talks with Anglo American Platinum (Amplats) could get the parties closer.

AMCU members are currently on strike at Amplats in protest against plans by the platinum firm to retrench about 3,200 employees. Amplats has said the restructuring is necessary to keep its Rustenburg mines viable.

“The strike is continuing. We had marathon meetings with the employer last night and will have another tomorrow and I believe that meeting should get us closer,” Joseph Mathunjwa, president of AMCU told Reuters.
