
[miningmx.com] – THE National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) was regaining support at the expense of rival the Association of Mineworkers & Construction Union (AMCU) which has led its members on an eleven week strike in the platinum sector with an outcome over higher wages yet to be settled.
Citing NUM secretary-general, Frans Baleni, Reuters said in a report republished by Business Report that the NUM had even won majority status at one of the operating shafts in the Rustenburg around which the strike is centered
“I have been monitoring almost weekly the numbers of members who are coming back to the union. In fact in one of the operations in Anglo American Platinum we are going to be recognised again because of the numbers,’ Baleni said.
