
[miningmx.com] – A STRIKE at Sishen, an iron ore mine run by Anglo American subsidiary, Kumba Iron Ore, constrained the UK group’s total iron ore production in quarterly figures released today.
Second quarter iron ore production fell 1% to 11.3 million tonness, but copper output increased to 182,900 tonness. Platinum-equivalent refined production advanced 2% to 594,000 ounces.
Production of export metallurgical coal fell 9% to 4.4 million tonnes. Output of export thermal coal from South Africa declined 5% to 4 million tonnes.
Anglo may report a 31% decline in underlying profit to $1.17bn when it releases interim results on July 26, according to Bloomberg News.
