MPRDA may be split, says Ramatlhodi

[miningmx.com] – PROVISIONS relating to the oil and gas industries may be split out of the Mineral & Petroleum Resources Development Act (MPRDA), said Ngoako Ramatlhodi, South Africa’s mines minister.

In an article by Bloomberg News, Ramatlhodi is quoted as saying that splitting the oil and gas provisions from the mining provisions might be necessary because they are at different stages of development.

“It might make a lot of sense’ to split the provisions for oil and gas from those regulating mining, because the industries are at different stages of development,’’ Ramatlhodi said.

“I’m not aware of a firm decision’ as to whether this will happen, he said.
