Petra may mothball Helam mine

[miningmx.com] – PETRA Diamonds, the UK-listed diamond company, may put its Helam fissure mine on care and maintenance, said BDLive.

Helam sold 52,350 carats in Petra’s financial year ended June 30 representing a 27% fall year-on-year. The mine, which Petra bought in May 2005, has a 20 year life, said BDLive citing Petra’s website.

“It [Helam] had a difficult year and a difficult six months. We don’t want to go into too much detail because the business review and negotiations with labour are going on,” said David Abery, Petra’s finance director.
