AMCU, Amplats disaffection rumbles on

[miningmx.com] – THE disaffection between the Association of Mineworkers & Construction Union (AMCU) and Anglo American Platinum (Amplats) rumbled on after the union’s president said it was not consulted about the proposed sale of platinum mines in Rustenburg.

“The announcement was received through the public media without formal consultations,’ said AMCU’s Joseph Mathunjwa. This “makes joint consensus seeking in processes required by law difficult.’

Amplats confirmed last month that it intended to sell its Union section and also announced plans to dispose of its Rustenburg shafts, its joint venture in Pandora, and possibly its 49% stake in Bokoni Mines controlled by Atlatsa Resources.
