Ebola, lower prices smack African Minerals

[miningmx.com] – A COMBINATION of lower iron ore prices and the outbreak of the Ebola virus which had killed 211 people in Sierra Leone were behind the slump in shares of African Minerals, said Bloomberg News.

The company, which produces iron ore from the Tonkolili mine in Sierra Leone, has fallen 76% in London this year, and some 35% in the last four days. Air carriers such as British Airways and Emirates Air have suspended flights to Ebola hit regions.

The realized price for iron ore from its Tonkolili mine has dropped “considerably’ since the start of the third quarter after falling 20% in the previous three months, the London-based company said today in a statement.
