Amplats plans to triple Unki

[miningmx.com] – ANGLO American Platinum (Amplats) is studying plans to triple production from its Unki mine in Zimbabwe, said Bloomberg News.

“Studies are still in progress to determine the actual cost of the ramp up phase,’ Walter Nemasasi, Unki’s general mine manager, told Bloomberg News. “By end of the year, we’ll know how much it would cost,’ he said.

The company aims to boost production of ore to 350,000 metric tons a month from 130,000 tons currently. That would equate to annual production of between 180,000 and 200,000 ounces of platinum.
