New Pilbara in central Africa: Welborn

[miningmx.com] – CENTRAL Africa’s iron ore fields have the potential to become the Pilbara of the continent, said Equatorial Resources CEO, John Welborn, referring to the fabulously rich iron ore deposits of Western Australia.

“The region has the potential to be an economic engine to Africa, in the same way the Pilbara is to Australia,’ said Welborn at the Africa Down Under conference. “The Pilbara currently produces about 30% of the world’s iron ore – and that, I believe, is the potential of Central Africa,’ he said.

Equatorial Resources id developing the Mayoko-Moussondji iron ore project in the Republic of Congo and hoped to finalise a mining convention with the government shortly.
