[miningmx.com] – BRISBANE gold developer, Orbis Gold, said West Africa remained a “gold industry hotspot’ and recent merger and acquisition activity in the area reflected the ongoing sector interest in the region.
Addressing the Africa Down Under Conference, Orbis’ Exploration Manager, Ann Ledwidge, said the region hosts 70 individual deposits of more than one million ounces in gold each and was currently producing an annual output tracking north of seven million ounces.
“This is the sort of appeal which has attracted a significant representation of international companies and the recent merger and acquisition activity reflects the ongoing interest by global players in securing or building on their gold footprint in West Africa,’ said Ledwidge.
“Amid this, Burkina Faso is a growth stand-out, generating seven new gold mines in just seven years to a point it is now Africa’s fourth largest gold producer – a development path achievement well supported by government and a modern transparent mining code.’
