Bauxite trade holds up despite Ebola

[miningmx.com] – EXPORTS of Bauxite from West Africa had not been interrupted despite the outbreak of the Ebola virus in the region, said Bloomberg News citing comments by the International Aluminium Institute.

Bauxite exports from West Africa account for about a fifth of seaborne supplies, said Bloomberg News. Bauxite is used to manufacture alumina which is an important ingregdient in the production of aluminium.

“There’s no indication at this stage that there’s been any impact on any shipments from that region,’ Ron Knapp, secretary-general of the International Aluminium Institute, said. “We’re optimistic, positive that this is a short-term issue. It will be resolved.’
