NUM to vote on week-long Northam strike

[miningmx.com] – THERE had been little progress in talks aimed at resolving the week-long strike at Northam Platinum, said BDLive which added, however, that the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) held a meeting to discuss the stoppage.

“Our members are being briefed on the outcome of the talks between our negotiators and the company, and will then take a vote,” Livhuwani Mammburu, a spokesman for the NUM, told the publication.

About 5,000 workers downed tools at Northams Zondereinde mine, which accounts for about 65% of Northam’s production, owing to unfair hiring and firing practices, said BDlive.
