
[miningmx.com] – DIAMOND polishers in Namibia must see their contracts to buy diamonds from the Namibia Diamond Trading Company (NDTC) expire before they will know if they will be renewed.
The NDTC told Bloomberg News that new diamond buying contracts for polishers can only be renewed once a new marketing agreement between De Beers and the Namibian government is signed, probably after March. The polishers’ contracts expire next month.
The Namibian government wants a new marketing agreement similar to one signed between the Anglo American company and Botswana providing it with the rights to sell more of its own diamonds.
The NDTC buys diamonds from Namdeb, the joint venture company between De Beers and the Namibian government.
