Indaba an opportunity for SA mining

[miningmx.com] – THE annual Mining Indaba, which begins in Cape Town today, was an opportunity for South Africa to restore confidence among investors amid signs the country’s mines minister had made a good initial impression, said BDLive.

“The minister will send a message that South Africa is a premier mining investment destination and show case investment opportunities here and on the continent,” a ministerial source told BDLive.

“I would like to hear all stakeholders commit to meaningful dialogue to address the issues faced by the industry and make some firm commitments to take us to 2030,” said Andrew Lane, Deloitte’s leader of energy and resources in Africa. “Up to now everyone has been telling everyone else what they need to do,” he said.

“I’m looking forward to an upbeat, more investor-friendly speech,” said Carel Smit, head of energy and natural resources at KPMG. “I want to hear how are we going to tackle the issues and we have to be open about what these issues are.

“I find this minister very open for dialogue and that is good. We need someone like this to take the industry forward.”
