MPRDA won’t separate oil and gas provisions

[miningmx.com] – SOUTH Africa mines minister, Ngoako Ramatlhodi, said there were no immediate plans to separate laws governing the oil and gas sector from the Mineral & Petroleum Resources Development Act (MPRDA) in terms of a bill intended to amend the Act.

BDLive cited the minister as saying the industry was comfortable with the contents of the bill, but it was not comfortable with the delay in promulgating amendments to it.

This meant amendments would focus on points outlined by President Jacob Zuma in January which questioned the constitutionality of ministerial discretion, and the possibility the amendments would contravene international trade agreements, said BDLive.

Zuma also said the proposed amendment act warranted more more discussion with needed with the National Council of Provinces and the House of Traditional Leaders.
