Gemfields to add sapphires to product suite

[miningmx.com] – GEMFIELDS chairman, Sean Gilbertson, said the company intended to add sapphires to its product suite that currently consists of rubies and emeralds, and would establish a single point of sales for the gemstones.

In an interview with BDLive, Gilbertson said the combined sales point would be established in the next 12 to 18 months.

Gemfields supplies emeralds from its Kagem mine in Zambia and it has started mining rubies in Mozambique, said BDLive.

It has agreements in place to start buying sapphires in Sri Lanka ahead of potentially building mines there if its exploration targets deliver economically viable projects, said the publication.
