SA mulls platinum manufacturing zones

[miningmx.com] – THE South African government is considering establishing two special economic zones for platinum beneficiation, said BDLive citing comments by the country’s trade and industry minister, Rob Davies.

Davies told the publication the zones would be established near platinum mines in the Limpopo and North-West provinces and would provide facilities for the manufacture of platinum fuel-cell components and other forms of value addition.

Impala Platinum has already started the development of a 1.8MW hydrogen-fed fuel cell power solution at its Springs refinery in collaboration with the Department of Trade and Industry and the Industrial Development Corporation, said BDLive.
