African Energy at centre of regional hub

[miningmx.com] – AUSTRALA’S African Energy was about to embark on an “aggressive” expansion programme in Botswana that would establish it at the centre of a power hub providing much-needed regional power.

Addressing the Africa Down Under conference, Frazer Tabeart, MD of African Energy, said the firm had two projects under its belt including the Sese Joint Venture Integrated Power Project which was studying a five billion tonne coal resource.

The other project was the 2.4 billion tonne Mmamabula West export coal project which was being repositioned as a power project. A third project – Mmamantswe – was being sold to a South African investor for $20m.

“We are positioning the business to develop a power hub that focuses on regional power demand,” said Tabeart.

“Our three projects are all centrally located within the South African Power Pool transmission grid with easy access to core infrastructure and in close proximity to grid connection,” he said.
