Brown holds up China model over privatisation

[miningmx.com] – PUBLIC enterprises minister, lLynne Brown, dismissed the notion the South African government was considering privatisation of state-owned utilities, but added that other options were being considered.

In an article by BDLive, Brown is quoted to have said that the country could learn from China in how it had listed portions of its utilities. “I don’t want privatisation, not for basic services anyway,” said Brown. She was speaking to delegates at the Black Management Forum conference.

“We are seriously engaged in the process of looking at how best state-owned companies can operate. China has been able to list portions of its state-owned companies on the stock exchange. We can learn from it,” said Brown.
