[miningmx.com] – THARISA, the Johannesburg-listed chrome and platinum group metals company, said it had lost about 30% of production shifts in October at its Tharisa mine after safety stoppages were imposed by the South African government.
Known as Section 54 notices, the stoppage followed an accident between a haul truck and another vehicle that resulted in minor injury. All operators and supervisors were required to be retrained, Tharisa said.
“As a consequence of the section 54 instruction following the fatality on 28 September 2015 and the aforementioned section 54 instruction, 27 production shifts were lost representing 30% of the production shifts for October 2015,” the company said.
