DiamondCorp overcomes “operational challenges”

[miningmx.com] – DIAMONDCORP said it had overcome some of its recent operational challenges by resuming tunnelling at its Lace diamond mine in South Africa’s Free State.

“Resumption of development work on the 290m level combined with commissioning last week of the 400 tonnes per hour conveyor belt system from the first production level, means that many of the operational challenges we have been facing in recent months have been overcome,” said Paul Loudon, CEO of DiamondCorp.

He added, however, that “… the overall development and production timetable remains behind schedule, as previously announced”.

DiamondCorp said earlier this month it had asked its lender, South Africa’s state-owned Industrial Development Corporation, to roll up interest payments it is due whilst the mining firm tackles geological difficulties at its Lace mine.
