[miningmx.com] – GRACE Mugabe, wife of ailing Zimbabwean president, Robert Mugabe, is in control of the southern African country, said the Guardian citing a report by South Africa’s Mail & Guardian.
Grace Mugabe has been an increasingly prominent presence on Zimbabwe’s political scene in recent months, taking up a key post in the ruling party, ZANU-PF, last December and going around the country addressing rallies and handing out gifts, said the Guardian.
The newspaper drew from the Mail & Guardian’s report which quoted Morgan Tsvangirai, Zimbabwe’s opposition minister, as saying that Grace Mugabe had conducted “a palace coup” especially as the 91-year old Robert Mugabe’s health continued to fail.
Bodyguards had to rush to stop him falling as he stumbled while reaching out to shake hands with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the last week of October.
A month earlier, he read the wrong speech during the opening of parliament without realising his error.
