SA gold firms beef up security as strike looms

[miningmx.com] – SOUTH Africa’s gold industry was beefing up security ahead of strike action by the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) which is due to kick off from the night shift of September 3, said Bloomberg News.

“They had a massive increase in security and planning. There is also very strong coordination with the police at a local and national level,’ said Charmane Russell, spokesperson for the Chamber of Mines which has been representing AngloGold Ashanti Gold Fields, Harmony Gold and Sibanye Gold in wage talks.
