[miningmx.com] – AQUARIUS Platinum said it had suspended blasting at its Kwezi shaft at the Kroondal Platinum Mine in order to begin a forensic investigation into the death of a female miner who may have been assaulted.
“While the circumstances of the incident cannot be disclosed, it was apparent during the initial investigation that the woman may have been assaulted,” the company said in an announcement to the JSE. The body of the miner was discovered in the early hours of this morning, Aquarius Platinum said.
“Aquarius deplores any incidence of violence. The company will work closely with the SAPS, the Department of Mineral Resources, and employee representatives to support her family and in the course of the investigation,” the company said.
