Universal Coal on beam for Q1 Kangala output

[miningmx.com] – AUSTRALIAN-listed Universal Coal said it was on schedule to produce first coal from its Kangala mine in eMalahleni (formerly Witbank) in South Africa’s Mpumalanga province in the first quarter of 2014.

The mine will be the company’s first and produce 2.1 million tonnes a year (mtpa) of saleable thermal coal of which 2mtpa will be allocated to Eskom with the balance destined for the export market in a deal with Exxaro Resources.

Cold commissioning of the crushing and screening plant at Kangala’s plant has begun with hot commissioning due in December, the company said.
