Miners in Congo facing power shortage

[miningmx.com] – THE Democratic Republic of Congo has urged mining companies to halt expansions because the country doesn’t have the electricity capacity to service them, said Bloomberg News citing government documents.

The newswire quoted a document signed by Congolese prime minister Augustin Matata Ponyo in which he said the power shortage could take years to resolve. He instituted a system of state power rationining in a letter to other ministers.

“I equally deem it necessary that mining clients postpone immediately and until further notice all expansion projects requiring supplemental energy,’ Matata said in the letter.
