[miningmx.com] – GRAHAM Briggs, CEO of Harmony Gold, said the priority for the company was to lead an ‘intensive investigation’ into the cause of the Doornkop tragedy in which nine miners lost their lives last week.
This follows the discovery on February 7 of the ninth and final miner unaccounted for after a fire broke out at the west Rand mine on February 3 following a fall of ground. A further eight miners were rescued.
The investigation would involve “… representatives of the company,organised labour and the health and safety directorate of the Department of Mineral Resources,” Harmony Gold said in a statement today.
