AMCU, CoM have court date set to June

[miningmx.com] – THE Chamber of Mines and the Association of Mineworkers & Construction Union (AMCU) will not know until June 5 whether a planned strike in the gold sector will proceed.

This was after lawyers for the two entities requested the Labour Court for a postponement of the return date to June originally set for March 14 in order to have more time to prepare. This followed a ruling in January by the Labour Court which declared AMCU’s proposed strike unprotected.

The Labour Court, which interdicted AMCU from launching a strike of members in the gold sector, said the proposed strike was not compatible with the requirements of the Labour Relations Act.
