Manganism inquiry handed to NPA

[miningmx.com] – AN inquiry into manganism at the Cato Ridge operations of Assore by the Department of Labour has been handed to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), said BDLive citing comments from Tiaan van Aswegen, technical director of Assore.

“Despite the company’s best efforts, it has never received a formal report on the outcome of the inquiry,” Van Aswegan said at Assore’s annual general meeting. He added that five employees claiming infection with manganism after working with ferro-manganese at the mine had received compensation under the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act (Coida), so no further class action was expected, BDLive cited Van Aswegan to have said.
